A new recycling program to keep mattresses out of MD landfills is off to a great start this year.
The MD started collecting old mattresses at two of their landfill sites six weeks ago and have already filled an entire 40 foot shipping container with them. All those mattresses will eventually be sent off to Calgary to be turned into carpet underlay and firewood. Mattresses are notorious for being next to impossible to pack down in landfills and a few of the MD’s sites are approaching capacity as it is.
