Lac La Biche County installing surveillance cameras downtown

A string of surveillance cameras are being installed at the intersection of 101 Avenue and 101 Street in Lac La Biche. The County says there will be two on each light post near the Alberta Treasury Branch, Smiley’s Furniture, the Dollar Store and Subway. They will be installed starting on July 17th or 18th and drivers are asked to watch for workers.

The County says the cameras are meant to promote public safety and help law enforcement, and only a select few agencies will be able to access the recordings. They will not be monitored live, but can be used after the fact if needed, but not for traffic enforcement. Recordings will be kept for 30 days.
