Elk Point Man Arrested For Taking Cell Phone, Extorting Victim

St. Paul RCMP have arrested a 21-year-old Elk Point man who threatened a person walking through a local park.

Police say a man and woman approached the victim and demanded that they hand over their cell phone, which they did. The man is then suspected to have demanded a ransom from the victim if they wanted it back, saying if they did not bring the money in a few hours he’d track them down. The victim was able to flee the area and was not injured.

Police were able to locate the male suspect a short time later at a nearby residence where he was arrested and taken into police custody.

The man is facing charges of:

· Robbery
· Extortion without a firearm
· Intimidation
· Mischief under $5000.00
· Obstruction of a police officer

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be made available.
