Hazardous Waste Roundup a Success in Bonnyville

Bonnyville town council says this past weekend’s Household Hazardous Waste Roundup was success.

Held outside the fire hall, the roundup is an annual event that allows residents to dispose of items that can’t go into the garbage can, like electronics. Councillor Jim Cheverie told council that paint cans were the big item dropped off though, which he said there were “pallets” of by the time things wrapped up. He also remarked that turnout was pretty good.

Councillor Nestor Kunec added that all that paint is not simply dumped. It’s all mixed together with some additives to be remade into primer. Kunec said in one case an entire hospital was painted with such primer.

“We probably had a lot more people come through than we’ve ever had,” remarked Councillor Lorna Storoschuk. “We’ve seen less amount [of waste] coming, but more people coming.”
