Tentative Agreement Reached in Points West Cold Lake Labour Dispute

Management and staff at Points West Living Cold Lake have reached a tentative agreement after a 189 day lockout.

Staff at the facility will vote to accept or decline the agreement this evening. Termination notices delivered to nursing care members on May 25th have been rescinded.

“We’re pleased to reach a tentative agreement,” says Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Vice-President Guy Smith. “Our goal was always to get a negotiated settlement with Points West Living. If it’s ratified with the members, we’ve done that.

“One thing that’s really important for us is that those folks on the picket line were amazing during the whole 189 days. They had a lot of support from the community, from the residents of the facility there and family members. I’m very impressed with their strength and determination.”

The lockout has been ongoing since December 16th, 2016. Negotiations have been going on since late 2015. More details on the agreement will be made available tomorrow.
