Portage College Wins Award For Virtual Reality Recruitment Video

Portage College has won an award for a recruitment tool that allows students to see the school in virtual reality.

The college takes a virtual reality headset to events so that potential students can watch a video that allows them to look around a full 360 degrees. The video has earned the College the Innovation of the Year Award from the League of Innovation in the Community College. Portage was one of 53 colleges across Canada and the United States to receive the distinction.

“We were very honoured to receive the… award for this initiative,” says Manager of Corporate Communications and the project lead Jaime Davies. “It’s wonderful to have our efforts recognized but even more special to have the 360 video be embraced by the general public.”

Developed with a firm based out of Calgary, Portage College estimates about 190 people have watched the three minute video at events and another 11,400 have watched it on veer.tv, a site specifically for virtual reality videos.
