Alberta Education recently announced a second year of funding for the School Nutrition Program. Northern Lights received $250,000 to continue the program at Vera M. Welsh Elementary School in Lac La Biche.
The Northern Lights project is a partnership between Vera and J.A. Williams High School. Students at the high school prepare the meals, earning credits and work experience, and the food is delivered to Vera, providing elementary school students with a healthy, hot lunch every day. Next year, the project may expand to offer some food service to Aurora Middle School.
