The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre’s Cold Lake location will be closed for renovations.
The Centre has been operating out of the same building since 1989 and recently learned that the water lines need to be repaired before they burst and cause extensive damage. It has been decided that the shelter will be closed while repairs are undertaken.
“During the repairs, the shelter will be left without water, walls will need to be removed and it will cause health and safety issues for clients and staff,” said Susan White, Executive Director. “It is in the best interest of clients and staff that we close the shelter during this period, however we have made alternate plans to accommodate clients during this time.”
Other shelters have been made aware of the temporary closure and current staff will assist clients by transporting to other shelters when necessary.
“We will work closely with other shelters to ensure the least amount of disruption to our own clients,” added White.
The shelter closure will happen on Monday is and is expected to last between two weeks and a month.
month. The Community Support Program will continue as usual and the Helpline will remain open 24/7 for any assistance, at 780-594-3353.
