Children’s Charity Golf Classic Teeing Up for 7th Year

In about a month’s time, the 2017 Children’s Charity Golf Classic will be hitting the links for another year of fundraising for the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

“It’s the seventh year for us,” says organizer Mark Reid. “We have a daughter that’s back and forth there quite often and there’s quite a lot of kids in our community that use that hospital as well. We feel a good need to try and fund something for it.”

Reid says the tournament will have 144 players at the Bonnyville Golf and Country Club this year. Usually he asks teams that competed last year if they want back in again and fills up the available slots pretty quickly. He adds however, that he does start a waiting list and that a few teams tend to back out every year.

“Every year we seem to be between that 15 to 20,000 mark (in funds raised), so our fundraising goal would be 20,000 again this year; we’re hoping to hit that. I think anything over 15,000 dollars is a huge bonus from what we’ve done in past years.”
