Operation MAPLE FLAG -An annual air combat training exercise- will once again be happening at 4 Wing Cold Lake.
That means there will be more security around the base between May 29th and June 23rd while the operation is underway. Residents can expect to see armed soldiers at the front and back gates as well as more military vehicles on the roads. As you might expect, all those jets ad helicopters flying around are going to make a fair deal of noise as well. Operations will be conducted Monday through Saturday during the exercise’s run.
The operation will involve nearly 2000 Canadian military personnel as well as members from six allied nations. The training missions will test pilots and crew in air combat, air-to-air refueling, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance among other skills.
