Major Storm Forecasted for Lakeland Tomorrow Evening

Environment Canada is forecasting a major storm covering most of Alberta on Wednesday, including the Lakeland.

The agency says they forecast a strong low pressure system to form near the BC border this evening. They expect it to move in an east and southeast direction from there.

The storm is expected to hit the Lakeland area sometime around Wednesday evening. Current indications are that rainfall amounts will be in the 30 to 40 mm range, but some areas of 50 to 75 mm are possible, especially with any thunderstorms embedded in the rain.

While the rain might be bad enough, it’s the winds that could really cause damage. Beginning Wednesday afternoon much of east-central Alberta will likely see northerly winds with gusts up to 100 km/h.

We will provide updates as they become available.
