Moose Lake Weir levels High

Crews in the M.D of Bonnyville have been busy dealing with flooding issues for the past couple of weeks.

Staff have been monitoring the Moose Lake Weir levels via drone and assisting with keeping the weir flowing. The creek has doubled in size this year.

“Since we started recording last Wednesday we’ve seen the creek rise approximately three to four inches,” Ag and waste director for the MD Matt Janz told council. “Two days ago [Monday] we did get some blockages at the weir. Some floating cattails and that were blocking the weir… definitely water levels are coming up on the creek. I don’t know if that’s happening on the lake side too but I would presume it would.

“Right now we have no blockages on the creek. It is free flowing other than at the weir with the cattails.”

Reeve Ed Rondeau mentioned the upside of all this is that there’s been a lot of stagnant water in the lake over the past few years and the increased levels will go a long way to flushing it out.

Residents dealing with beaver problems should call 780-826-3951 to report concerns.
