Unemployment in Northeast Alberta Steady at 9.1%

Unemployment data is out for March and the Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake region remained unchanged at 9.1 percent.

While the number held steady from February, it remains down from 9.8 at this time last year. Across Alberta, unemployment increased slightly last month to 8.4 percent from 8.3. That compares with a 6.7 percent rate for Canada as a whole. The province continues to have the highest unemployment rate outside of the Maritimes.

Despite a 0.1 percent rise, the Canadian economy grew by 19,400 jobs in March. More people looking for work brought the unemployment rate up.
