Humane Society Starts “Shop A PAW Looza” Facebeook Auction Fundraiser

The Lakeland Humane Society has over 200 items they’re auctioning off for their “Shop a PAW Looza” fundraiser this week.

“It’s all on Facebook” says Shelter Manager Kathy Oliffe-Webster. “You can go to our Facebook page. We have links all over the page. It’s just like any other Facebook event. Just click yes that you’re going. You’ll be able to see everything that’s being posted and you’ll be able to bid on it. I’m basically posting four, five or six things an hour just based on things are going and if people are bidding in the comments. After an hour if people are still bidding furiously it stays up, but if it’s been quiet for a while we close it down. We give them lots of water. We comment ‘going’ then after a few minutes ‘going’ then after a few minutes again I say ‘gone.’ Then we mark that as sold and ask the person to come to the shelter to pick them up. We accept cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard and even e-transfers. Pretty much we’ll take anything.”

Oliffe-Webster says one item in particular is the crown jewel this year. “This guy made a doghouse for us and it’s more like a dog palace. Its got a front porch, its even got Christmas Lights. Its got a place for the bowl, it’s insulated. It’s basically paradise for a small to medium size dog. There’s about 650 dollars in materials alone for this house.” The doghouse is going up for auction in the next few days.

Also up are spa packages, eyelash extensions, art, and even a rare coin collection. The shelter has posted on their Facebook page that they’re still looking for more though. “We’ve had a few of requests from Auction bidders looking to bid on specific things: 1) Hockey tickets. Anybody have any they’d like to donate? 2) Massage. Apparently there are a lot of stressed out mamas in our midst. 3) Someone to cook and clean for a day! If you would like to donate any of those things, let us know!”

All proceeds go to the Humane Society, who are saving up to build a new shelter. Last year raised close to 13,000 dollars and the goal this year is to break the 15,000 mark. The auction runs until Friday.
