Man and Woman From Edmonton Face Drug Charges From Trafffic Stop in Bonnyville

On January 29th, 2016 just prior to 2:00 AM, the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment received a 911 call for service regarding a possible intoxicated driver on 50th street in the town of Bonnyville.  The vehicle was located by a Bonnyville RCMP Detachment Constable on 50th Avenue near 50th Street and a traffic stop was conducted.

Through investigation it was deemed that the Constable did not believe the driver to be intoxicated but observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle along with a substance that appeared to the Constable to be Methamphetamine.  The male driver, a 35 year old resident of Edmonton, and the female passenger, a 36 year old resident of Edmonton, were both arrested for Possession of a Methamphetamine.

Police checks on both subjects showed the female to be wanted by Edmonton Police Service and both to have pending charges before the courts.  Search of the vehicle and persons incidental to arrest resulted in substances believed to be Methamphetamine and Cocaine, drug paraphernalia, Canadian currency, a knife and a imitation handgun.  Both the male and the female where then advised that they were under arrest for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine and were transported to the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment where they were later released by a Justice of the Peace on bail.

The male faces charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Trafficking Property Obtained by Crime, and 4 counts of Failing to Comply with Conditions.  The female faces charges of  Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Trafficking Property Obtained by Crime, and 2 counts of Failing to Comply with Conditions.  Both are set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on February 16th, 2016.
