Lakeland Drivers Acknowledged for Positive Change in Behaviour

The Iron River Fire Department is noticing a positive change in traffic. Gordon Graves, Fire Chief with the Iron River Detachment, notes that traffic has been following proper procedure as of late when it comes to emergency crews.

Graves says he has an appreciation for drivers in the area, “traffic on the road in the last six weeks or so, we’ve noticed a significant improvement to how they react to emergency vehicles.” Graves says the turn around in behaviour was much needed, “we went from nearly impossible to get through to the traffic really is yielding to let us through.”

Graves sends a shout out to The Bonnyville Station Chief, Darryl Shyian, “I really attribute the change in behaviour to Darryl and his commitment to get the message out through the media outlets.”

Proper procedure states: If you see or hear an emergency vehicle approaching, drivers are to yield to the shoulder or side of the road and allow the emergency crews to pass. If you are at an intersection you are to default the right of way to the emergency crews and allow them to pass through.
