The Town of St. Paul Commissions a Waste Management Study

St. Paul is discovering new options for waste management that may see landfills in the area as a thing of the past. Mayor of St. Paul, Glenn Anderson, explains the feasibility study the town has commissioned as a way of exploring different options. “There’s interesting ways where you can shred the waste and ship it to Edmonton to their facility where they make ethanol/methanol,” or another option says Mayor Anderson would be to, “shred it up here (in The Lakeland) and make a synthetic gas or to create electricity into the power grid.”

There are a lot of fascinating options for, not just The Town of St. Paul but the whole The Lakeland area. Mayor Anderson says the town is working with neighbouring communities, such as, Elk point, Bonnyville, Lac La Biche, Cold Lake, The County of St. Paul and the waste management company, Evergreen Waste.

Mayor Anderson notes that these options are not new, “in other countries in the world, they don’t have the land mass we do, so those initiatives are already in place and already been done.” Mayor Anderson questions, “why can’t we do that here, why can’t we be that initiative?”

The feasibility study is expected to be completed within 6 months, at that time St. Paul will get together with the partnering communities to decide what the best option would be.
